Marj Hogarth is a Scottish actress and designer whose career spans over three decades across stage, screen, and sustainable fashion. Known for her versatility and creative spirit, she has become a familiar face in British comedy and a respected voice in contemporary craft.
Stage and Screen
Marj has a rich history in live theatre. She has played a range of roles on stage, including iconic roles in pantomime such as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and Carabosse in Sleeping Beauty at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness, delighting audiences with her commanding stage presence and flair for villainy.

Marj first gained national attention as part of the ensemble cast of The Karen Dunbar Show (2003–2006), a Scottish sketch comedy series that showcased her comedic timing and character work. She went on to appear in shows ranging from Rab C. Nesbitt, to BBC favourites like Still Game and M.I. High. She also appeared as the character Joan Begg in multiple series of the long-running Radio 4 sitcom Fags, Mags and Bags.
From Stage to Studio: Hook and Hatchet
In 2020, during the UK’s first national lockdown, Marj rekindled her love of making by launching Hook & Hatchet, producing contemporary, practical, and sustainable bags & crafts for modern life. She began by repurposing materials in creative ways. She avoids trendy labels like “upcycling” in favour of a more grounded, personal approach to design. Each piece reflects her commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.
Life with Keith Brymer Jones
Marj is married to renowned ceramicist and television presenter Keith Brymer Jones. Together, they embarked on an ambitious project to renovate Capel Salem, a derelict 19th-century chapel in Pwllheli, North Wales. Their journey was documented in the Channel 4 series Our Welsh Chapel Dream, which followed the couple as they transformed the historic building into a home, studio, and creative hub.
A Creative Life
Whether performing on stage, crafting sustainable fashion, or restoring historic architecture, Marj Hogarth brings passion, humour, and a deep sense of purpose to everything she does.
